Car-Free Earth Day is on April 26th

Car-Free Earth Day will be held on Saturday, April 26th from 10 am – 4 pm. Hosted by the NYC Department of Transportation, this annual citywide event celebrates Earth Day with select city streets open for walking, biking, and car-free strolling.

Flatiron NoMad Partnership is excited to host family-friendly, interactive programming on the Flatiron South Plaza! Fun activities with engaging elements will include a small box art activation led by a local artist and architect, ping pong tables from SPIN, corn hole, and Connect Four.

Small Business Owners Push for Stronger Discovery Laws  

Governor Kathy Hochul visited Flatiron & NoMad business Noir et Blanc owned by Deborah Koenigsberger to call for essential changes to New York’s discovery laws as a part of the Governor’s comprehensive anti-retail theft plan.

“I cannot overstate how grateful I am to Governor Hochul for her commitment to supporting small businesses,” said Ms. Koenigsberger.

DSNY Curbside Composting: As of April 1, 2025, separation of compost from trash is now mandatory. Register for a virtual info session on Thursday, April 24th at 6 pm to learn about composting best practices. Learn more about curbside composting here.

Construction Notice: The NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC) announced pedestrian ramp construction will soon begin at various locations in Manhattan and Queens to upgrade ramps to ADA specifications. The anticipated completion of the entire project is September 2026. Location specific advisories will be distributed 72 hours prior to the start of work at each corner. Locations in Flatiron and NoMad include Madison Avenue from East 23rd Street to East 36th Street. Neighborhood Activations:

  • Street Festival: Sunday, April 20th from 10 am – 6 pm on Sixth Avenue from 23rd Street to 33rd Street.

 

Street Closures:

  • West 22nd Street between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue will be closed from 9 am to 3 pm Monday – Friday through April 25th to excavate and install conduit and vault for new major service.
  • East 28th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue will be closed from 7 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday, except Saturday, April 19th and Sunday, April 20th through Sunday, April 27th to place knuckle boom on roadway to lift glass.
