Car-Free Earth Day this Saturday

Join us for Car-Free Earth Day this Saturday, April 26th from 10 am – 4 pm. Hosted by the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), this annual citywide event celebrates Earth Day with select city streets open for walking, biking, and car-free strolling.

Flatiron NoMad Partnership is excited to host family-friendly, interactive programming on the Flatiron South Plaza! Fun activities with engaging elements will include ping pong tables from SPIN, corn hole, and Connect Four.

NYC DOT will be activating the Flatiron North Plaza and will install Asphalt Asters by Molly Gambardella on the northeast corner of 22nd Street and Broadway.

Meet Lisa Li, founder and owner of The Qi, a flower tea wellness brand located at 27 West 20th Street, Suite 602 in Flatiron.

New Neighbor Roundup: Bud & Honey and Stoops NYC

MAYOR ADAMS SIGNS HISTORIC LEGISLATION TO REMOVE SCAFFOLDING ACROSS FIVE BOROUGHS

On April 17, Mayor Adams signed several pieces of legislation to address the City’s long-standing scaffolding shed epidemic, giving the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) new tools to remove unnecessary, unsightly scaffolding and create more appealing designs for sheds that are still needed.

“We applaud City Hall and our elected officials for advancing the kind of forward-thinking, street-level reform our business districts need, and reclaiming Flatiron and NoMad’s sidewalks as safe and dynamic spaces for commerce, culture and everyday connection,” said James Mettham, President, Flatiron NoMad Partnership.

Construction Notice: The NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC) announced pedestrian ramp construction will soon begin at various locations in Manhattan and Queens to upgrade ramps to ADA specifications. The anticipated completion of the entire project is September 2026. Location specific advisories will be distributed 72 hours prior to the start of work at each corner. Locations in Flatiron and NoMad include Madison Avenue from East 23rd Street to East 36th Street.   • Car-Free Earth Day: Saturday, April 26th, 10 am – 4 pm, Broadway from 17th to 47th Street
  • Sikh Day Parade:  Saturday, April 26th, 10 am – 6 pm, post-parade festivities Madison Avenue from 26th to 24th Street
  • Persian Day Parade: Sunday, April 27th, 10 am – 5 pm, Madison Avenue from 39th Street to Madison Square Park

 

Street Closures:

  • West 22nd Street between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue will be closed from 9 am to 3 pm Monday – Friday through April 25th to excavate and install conduit and vault for new major service.
  • East 28th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue will be closed from 7 am to 4 pm Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th to place knuckle boom on roadway to lift glass.
