Rangoli Art Celebration

Join us on Saturday, March 11 from 12 – 4 pm at the Capitol Plaza (48 West 27th Street) for our first ever Rangoli Art Celebration!

This community event will feature Rangoli, an art form originating from India where beautiful patterns are created using organic materials.

The Rangoli represents the happiness, positivity, and liveliness of a household, and is intended to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck.

This family-friendly public event will include:

  • A collaborative Rangoli guided by Aeilushi Mistry
  • Live traditional music
  • South Asian treats
  • Educational and cultural activities

Waste Placement Time Collection: Beginning on April 1, 2023, the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will implement a new rule to reduce the time that trash, recycling, and curbside composting will sit on sidewalks. Businesses: if using a container with a secure lid, place waste at the curb 1 hour before closing, or if putting bags directly on the curb, place waste out after 8 pm. NYC Employers: Salary Transparency Law is in effect. As of November 1, 2022, all NYC employers with four or more employees and employment agencies of all sizes must state the salary range or rate of pay when advertising a job, promotion, or transfer opportunity. For more information, visit here.

Neighborhood Updates

  • Street Closures:
    • East 26th Street between Lexington and Third Avenue will be closed this Saturday, March 4 from 8 am – 6 pm, and Sunday, March 5 from 9 am – 6 pm for use of knuckle boom to lift steel dunnage. 
    • West 27th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue will be closed from 6 am – 3 pm this Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 to facilitate crane operation.
    • West 29th Street between Broadway and Fifth Avenue will be closed from 8 am – 4 pm this Saturday, March 4 for concrete operations.
    • East 30th Street between Madison and Park Avenue will be closed from 5 am – 3 pm this Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 to facilitate crane operation.
