Several exciting new businesses have recently opened in the neighborhood. This month’s roundup features a variety of new neighbors, from a homestyle Thai restaurant to the first U.S. location of a popular Italian street food chain. Stay in the know with the latest New Neighbors in Flatiron & NoMad.

Wanglang, the new Thai restaurant has opened in the district. With a focus on homestyle cooking, Wanglang offers an elevated and unique dining experience curated by Executive Chef Rattana Suntanalukn. “We’re incredibly excited to join the Flatiron and NoMad community,” says the Wanglang Team. “These neighborhoods have such a vibrant dining culture, and we’re honored to share the flavors and traditions of Thai homestyle cooking with such a dynamic and diverse audience.” Chef Rattana Suntanalukn was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand in a family of restauranteurs. Her approach is rooted in generations of recipes that offer guests authentic, comforting flavors presented in a contemporary way. Named after an old riverside town along the Chao Phraya River, Wanglang is known for its lively food market serving Thai dishes and street food. Wanglang honors this tradition, now in the heart of New York City.
Begin your meal with a couple of small bites such as the Tod Mun Goong, crispy shrimp cakes filled with shrimp, ground pork, and served with a homemade plum sauce. Pair with the Som Tum Thai, a refreshing Fresh papaya salad in a tangy lime dressing. Entrees are served family style, great for sharing and trying multiple dishes. Order the Pla Nueng Ma-now, a steamed whole branzino in a spicy Thai sauce, and the Khao Soi Nuer Toon, a northern Thai classic, featuring coconut curry broth and tender braised beef with egg noodles. Situated within Park South Hotel, Skewr is the new Mediterranean restaurant in NoMad. Skewr centers on live-fire cooking and Levantine-style table dining led by Executive Chef Austin Torsiello, formerly of Junoon, The Breslin and Masa. “With Skewr, we wanted to create something that feels energetic, welcoming, and built for how people want to dine right now,” says Partner Kanvar Singh. “NoMad has a real sense of momentum, with new ideas and perspectives shaping the neighborhood, and we’re excited to be part of that and contribute something that adds to the mix.” At Skewr, Chef Torsiello brings his Michelin-starred training to a vibrant menu of mezze, skewers, breads, and entrees, all made to share.
Start your dinner with a Mezze Trio accompanied with laffa pita & lettuce wraps and the Beet Salad with arugula, red onion, walnuts, labne. For larger dishes, choose from a range of meat, seafood, and skewers. Try the Braised Lamb with sumac, onion, and olive and the Mussels in a saffron, fennel, chili, and white wine broth. Stone & Soil is a new cocktail bar in NoMad that features Japanese bartending and is rooted in Omotenashi, the Japanese philosophy of wholehearted hospitality. Founded by Beverage Director & Partner Hirotomo Akutsu, formerly of Bar Trench, Tokyo and Creative Director & Partner Rio Azmee, formerly of Morimoto and Bar MOGA, Stone & Soil offers a menu of 22 precision-driven cocktails. “Stone & Soil is focused and intentional, centered on Japanese bartending and Omotenashi, says Creative Director & Partner Rio Azmee. “We’re thrilled to be located in NoMad, an area that has so much diversity and is constantly evolving.” The curated beverage selection highlights whole-ingredient usage, house fermentation, fortified wines, and custom ice hand-carved daily.
Upon entering the space, the interior features Japandi design principles, a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. Sustainable and minimalistic elements including recycled wood and leather are seen throughout Stone & Soil’s furnishings and décor. From fruit-forward to smoky, choose from a range of cocktails to start your evening. Try the Rum It Up, crafted with Planetary O.F.T.D. rum, Lustau PX sherry, Savoia Orancio, pineapple, lime, coconut, and kokuto. For a champagne-based drink, order the classic Grand French 124. Founded in Italy in 1994, PIADI has opened its first U.S. location in Flatiron. PIADI brings the tradition of Italian piadina to New York City. Each flatbread is freshly made to order and is inspired by authentic recipes from the Emilia-Romagna region that has been central to Italian street food culture for more than 30 years. Guests can enjoy signature flatbreads including classic and inventive flavors available for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Additionally, the menu features Italian plates, fresh salads, and sides that are served with warm piadina wedges.
To order, choose your dough, traditional or whole wheat, and then decide which filling you’d like. PIADI’s menu features best sellers as well as a build-your-own option. Try the popular Giulia, made with prosciutto crudo di Parma, stracchino, arugula, and extra virgin olive oil.
