Madison Square Park Conservancy: Lifting Women and Justice

Artist Shahzia Sikander and Becca Heller, Executive Director of the International Refugee Assistance Project, will join in a public conversation on Monday, February 6 at 6 PM at Sony Square. Justice Judith Gische, who served as a judge for thirty-two years and is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York City Chapter of the New York State Women’s Bar Association, will moderate.

The program Lifting Women and Justice is planned in conjunction with Sikander’s major commission Havah…to breathe, air, life, on view in Madison Square Park and on the rooftop of the Appellate Division Courthouse through June 4, 2023. Sikander will begin the evening with a presentation on her work. The participants will examine what is justice today, how the legal field has advanced or failed women in juridical positions, and how works of art guide transformation on central questions upholding entrenched systems.
